Event Description

This workshop gives participants the unique opportunity to observe and collaborate in a live Therapeutic Assessment of a couple. In the weeks prior to this training, Drs. Nakamura and Ogura will begin a Therapeutic Assessment with a Japanese couple. These early sessions will be videotaped and subtitled into English, and participants will view excerpts of these sessions on the first day of the workshop. On the second day, participants will work with the test materials from the couple, helping to interpret them and to plan a Couples’ Assessment Intervention. Then in the afternoon, participants will watch the live Assessment Intervention Session, which will be simultaneously translated into English. Day three will involve planning and observing the live Summary/Discussion Session, again simultaneously translated. In the weeks after the training, participants will receive copies of the feedback letter sent to the clients and information about the assessment Follow-up Session.

This workshop is intended for mental health professionals and students who have already attended an introductory (Level 1) training in Therapeutic Assessment and/or who have done extensive reading in Therapeutic Assessment and who also have some knowledge of couples’ therapy or couples Therapeutic Assessment. All workshop sessions will be conducted in Japanese with simultaneous translation into English. The workshop is an intense, memorable way to see Therapeutic Assessment with Couples in action, and participants should come planning to take an active part in the Therapeutic Assessment.
